Jim McDonald (Sarge) began learning the harmonica from his Grandfather, Father, and two Uncles at 10 years of age. From them he learned the old style of playing that involves playing the melody of a song while at the same time playing the accompanying rhythm chords to the song, thus making it sound like two or three harmonicas playing.
